Bathurst homeowners Kevin and Sue Patterson have received a heritage award from the Bathurst Branch of the National Trust for their efforts in renovating a historic Rankin Street dwelling.

The Pattersons purchased 216 Rankin Street in 2017 and, along with John Fitzpatrick Constructions, transformed two small cottages into the one home in keeping with the street's heritage streetscape.
"We tried to reuse what we could in the exterior, but the interior has completely transformed in the last two years," Ms Patterson said.
"There wasn't a lot of original features in the house when we bought it, so we've reinstated a cedar fireplace, removed asbestos from the back of the building and have converted two semis into the one united dwelling."
The site was originally purchased for £4 in 1845 by Rachel Gainsborg, in a time where it was unusual for women to purchase land.
Ten years later, the Gainsborgs sold the site to George Ranken, of whom the street is named after.
The Pattersons have named the cottage Ranken in his honour.
"Rankin Street's an important part of Bathurst's heritage, and the Pattersons have done a tremendous job in ensuring the survival of this historic streetscape," Bathurst Branch of the National Trust chairman Iain McPherson said.
