RE: Taco Bell signals its intention to open in Bathurst (November 27).
Bathurst does not need yet another tacky multinational fast food company in the town.
Enough already. Profits travel overseas, community health continues to be compromised and our youth exploited for their cheap labour, not to mention the economic impact on locally owned food outlets.
The residents of Howick and Stewart streets, adjacent to the proposed site, will be affected by increased traffic flow, traffic noise, cooking smells and light pollution, not to mention the disruption to highway traffic, parking problems and pedestrian safety issues.
Ambulances on their way to the hospital may well be avoiding takeaway drive-through queues.
Consideration must be given to the increased noise of garbage collections, food truck deliveries, cars queuing, building construction disruptions and so much more.
If alcohol is to be served in the restaurant, what impact will this have on a mainly residential neighbourhood?
The current business is only open during normal daytime business hours and closed Sundays.
Will Taco Bell be like Maccas, open all hours?
How will the heritage status of the precinct be affected?
Bathurst Regional Council needs to take a long, hard look at this development application and say no thanks.
