On Tuesday afternoon the Blues sealed a nine-wicket victory against second-placed Queensland at the SCG to make it five wins and a draw so far this season.
It was an impressive performance given it came with the Blues missing six of their internationals who preparing for the first Test against New Zealand in Perth and while the game was completed under a thick cloud of smoke, Copeland said it was not too challenging.
"It was bad but never felt dangerous. It was more just uncomfortably hot and sweaty," he said.
Copeland took two wickets - including removing the dangerous Usman Khawaja on the final day - and three catches for the match - as the Blues moved two wins clear at the top of the ladder.
It means they are not only in a strong position to reach the final but favourites to win.
But Copeland, who was a member of the last NSW side to taste glory, knows tough cricket lies ahead following the mid-season break while the Big Bash League is contested.
"Unbelievable start to the season for the boys," Copeland posted on Twitter.
"Lots still to be done to bring home that Sheffield Shield."
