Redbacks have an even win-loss record through four rounds while Colts languish on the bottom of the ladder as the only club yet to find a win this Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket season.
It makes both teams hungry to win the clash at Loco Oval - Redbacks to keep themselves in the top four mix and Colts to inspire any sort of fightback.
And history suggests that's going to be hard for Colts to do.
Redbacks have been somewhat of a bogey side for Colts over the past three seasons, winning six of the last seven games between the teams.
Colts put a stop to Bathurst City's win streak last season only thanks to the rain, which arrived with Redbacks requiring just one wicket to win.
"We've got a healthy rivalry. We've both won plenty of competitions, Redbacks more in recent years, but we always have challenging games against them," Colts' Dan Casey said.
"They're a good team who are quite professional in way they go about their cricket. We can beat them but we need to play some very good cricket to do that."
A combination of injuries and sub-par play has left Colts in an unprecedented position of possibly entering the Christmas break without a win.
Victory over Redbacks would be a big achievement for a Colts side awaiting a fully git squad.
"We haven't fielded our strongest side together and it doesn't look like we're going to before Christmas," Casey said.
"On paper we've got a great batting team when everyone's available but we haven't batted anywhere near our potential. We've got a fairly good bowling attack but injuries have mainly hit our bowlers.
"Matt Stephen's only been there for one game and then Matt Lawson's had niggling injuries.
"Dave Henderson's been there most weeks but he's been the only one of our main bowlers who's been fit."
