The Blayney native, who is trained by Jamie Fallon at his Bathurst-based gym, featured in an amateur fight on the same night professional Billy Dib was in the ring with Van Thao Tran, while super welterweight Daniel Lewis defeated Rivo Kundimang.
And while he was unsuccessful in his light heavyweight fight, Fallon said Hillier has improved dramatically in the past three months he's been coaching him.
"He didn't end up getting the win, but Josh did really well," Fallon explained.
"It was in front of a big stage, a main event boxing night on the stage with the pros. He fought as an amateur on the under card earlier on the night.
"I've noticed such a massive improvement for Josh. He put his hand up for this fight and he's got a lot of heart to do that, quite nerve-wracking.
"Not many people can go down to Sydney and fight in front of thousands of people. It's a bit different fighting in front of a couple hundred in Bathurst."
The 20-year-old has fought almost 20 times, fighting at annual Bathurst Fight Night earlier this month.
It was also a big night for Fallon too, who helped organised the title fights for Dib and Lewis in his new role as World Boxing Council (WBC) Australasian coordinator.
"I arranged the two fights for Lewis and Dib and it opened up the doors for me to put one of my amateur fighters in on the night," he explained.
"I'm also the person in charge of organising titles for the WBC throughout Australasia, Oceania and Asia. The WBC is the biggest boxing organisation in the world.
"It's a massive role. I've just started doing it about six months ago, after I started working with WBC as a match-maker for fights."
The other professional fights on the night at Hurstville saw Danilo Creati defeat Mohammad Alavi, Lauryn Eagle was too good for Siriphon Chanbuala, Youssef Dib overcome Surachet Tongmala, Adam Chebib lost to debutante Nathan Jones, Furkan Demirkaya defeated John Min and Saeid Fatahifar was too good for Todd Sweeney in just his second ever fight.
Fallon also organised the recent Bathurst Fight Night, alongside partner Anna Evans, which was held at Panthers Bathurst back on Saturday, December 14.
Snakebite Boxing had nine boxers enter the ring, with many matched up in all-Bathurst fights or in a meeting against Orange opponents.
Malik Blenman and Dylan Branda were among those Bathurst fighters who got themselves victories over Orange opponents.
In the main event on the night, Jordan Pei Tiatia won over rival Michael Holani for the Central West Heavyweight Title.
