Another recent addition to the McCabe collective, Any Loose Change, won her picnic race at Trangie on Sunday in a three-horse affair.
Any Loose Change ($1.80 favourite, Ricky Blewitt) won with ease ahead of Steph's Wish ($2.60, Maddison Wright) and Crown Joker ($4.40, Jody Hughes).
Any Loose Change came across to McCabe from Nick Ryan's Caulfield stable after enduring a tough time on Victoria's country tracks.
The three-year-old Longhorn filly started her racing career in June but over her first three starts she never finished closer than eight lengths away from the winner.
Things are now looking up for her.
While Sunday's picnic race is difficult to gauge much from, with such a small field, the four and a half length victory is a big step in the right direction.
McCabe said it's a promising start in a new stable for Any Loose Change and a big moment for some of the connections.
"She's come up from around Melbourne, and it's a new client for me. It was his first win as an owner which made it even better," he said.
"He's got horses in work he's had for three or four but they've never gone on to win a race. It's great for him.
"I thought we'd go out there and get a quick easy kill with her and build her confidence up. I expected her to win but not do it as easily as she did.
"She was always in front. She jumped and led then kicked away from them with 200m to go. She was untouched."
Gaze Beyond (Ashley Boyd) couldn't make it a double at the meeting for McCabe when she finished runner-up as a $1.90 favourite to Drummed Out ($2.60, Maddison Wright) in the following race.
I expected her to win but not do it as easily as she did.
