The 16-year-old snooker player will be mixing it with older contestants in New Zealand next month, hoping to improve on last year's achievements.
"It's a lot harder compared to the under 18s," Nicholson said.
"I went last year and qualified for the quarter finals, but I didn't make it any further."
Nicholson will play in a doubles tournament this weekend at Mingara before heading to New Zealand.
Not taking the event lightly, he is looking to secure another win under his queue before the championship.
"I like to win everything I can," the young snooker player said.
Nicholson has recently returned from a successful visit to Albury for the Under 18s Australian Championship.
Although securing a victory in billiards at this tournament, Nicholson prefers playing snooker - the event he placed second in.
"Snooker is more fun," he said.
"In billiards there's only three balls so it's a bit boring."
Snooker sparked the interest of the young player when he was nine, and it wasn't long after that he won his first championship.
"I played in the under 15s State Championship when I had just turned 10 and I won," Nicholson said.
"My favourite win though was probably at the under 21s Billiards Nationals in Melbourne when I was 14."
The 2020 Oceania Championship will run from February 5-8.
