Yes, May 9 is definitely the most appropriate date to have as our national day.
Not only was it the day that our first parliament sat (in Melbourne) after decades of writing of our constitution and bringing all the colonies together as states as a Federation, but also when Canberra was created as the capital.
Both the original parliament house and the present "new" parliament were opened on that date.
So here's a new slogan: Australia Day the ninth of May.
