We've taken a glance at the nine teams that will compete this season, as well as looking through the archives to see the grand final results from 1994-2012.
Bathurst '75 are currently the most successful WPL side with six grand final wins, however, they won't make an appearance in the revived competition, but the second-most successful team with four championships - Orange Waratahs - will play in the WPL this season.
Dubbo Bulls (three times) and Orana Spurs (once) are the only current WPL sides to have lifted the championship trophy in the previous iteration of the competition.
Barnstoneworth United
- ASSOCIATION: Orange & District Football Association
- FOUNDED: 1998
- MAIN COLOURS: Red and white
- WPL TITLES: NA
Taking it's name from the local football club in British comedy Ripping Yarns, Barnstoneworth United is one of Orange's biggest clubs.
In 2019, the club fielded three teams in the Orange and District Football Association A grade competition, with Barnstoneworth FC defeating rivals Waratahs 3-1, with two goals from Grant Koch in the last six minutes of the match proving the difference in a tense match that featured a whopping 12 cards, three of them reds.
The FC side wore green and white in the grand final, but it's still remains unseen whether Barnstoneworth will sport the same strip or it's classic red and white stripes.
Barnstoneworth were originally founded back in 1998, playing its first season under the banner of the Ex-Services Club, before branching out independently the next season.
The club was originally the brainchild of Chris Jacobs, who still remains at the club to this very day.
Barnstoneworth originally had a team in the Western Premier League in 2012, playing in second grade, however, as it was last season of the competition before it's revival in 2020, this was the Orange club's only season in the WPL.
Dubbo Bulls
- ASSOCIATION: Dubbo & District Football Association
- FOUNDED: 2005
- MAIN COLOURS: Orange, black and white
- WPL TITLES: 2010, 2011, 2012
Prior to the demise of the Western Premier League at the end of the 2012 season, Dubbo Bulls were the dominant force in the region, winning the last three grand finals in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Bulls were formed in 2005, following a merge between SASS and East Dubbo United and in 2019 played in their 10th consecutive Dubbo and District Football Association first grade grand final, downing Orana Spurs 2-1.
And when being one of Dubbo's leading clubs, there's no surprise that Bulls have nominated for the revived Western Premier League.
Speaking to the Daily Liberal earlier this month, 2019 grand final goal-scoring hero Scott Fox said the club is more than ready for the WPL's return.
"We're playing strong competition, but there's also that lure of playing in Bathurst and Orange at their pitches. We're not renowned for having the best grounds here in Dubbo, so it'll be good to get up there and play on some proper pitches," Fox - who captained Bulls to their last three WPL championships - said.
Lithgow Workmen's Club
- ASSOCIATION: Bathurst District Football
- FOUNDED: 1982
- MAIN COLOURS: Red, black and white
- WPL TITLES: NA
They may be from Lithgow, but Workmen's Club have been a regular presence in Bathurst District Football competitions for over 30 years.
They're also the defending Bathurst District Football men's premier league champions, winning a tense penalty shootout against Abercrombie to seal the club's third title since 2013.
Abercrombie had taken a quick 2-0 lead early thanks to goals from Damien Booth and Jack Press after 15 minutes, but a Brad Luka goal in stoppage time just before half-time had Workies right back in the mix.
And in the 51st minute, Nick Young had the Lithgow team on level terms, before the regular season minor premiers won 5-4 on penalties.
Workmen's have had clubs in the old Western Premier League, having been crowned the WPL under 18s champions back in 2010, with Marjorie Jackson Oval serving as the club's home ground.
Macquarie United
- ASSOCIATION: Dubbo & District Football Association
- FOUNDED: 2013
- MAIN COLOURS: Sky blue, navy blue and white
- WPL TITLES: NA
There's actually two names that bear the name Macquarie United in the the Central West region, but it's the two-blues from Dubbo that will compete in the Western Premier League this season and not the Animal-inspired ones from Bathurst.
Being only seven-years-old, Macquarie is the second-youngest team in the revived competition, meaning they never played in the old WPL prior to its collapse at the end of the 2012 season.
Macquarie United fell just one game short of playing in the 2019 Dubbo and District Football first grade grand final, denied by a golden goal against Orana Spurs, after the match went to extra-time after the match finished 1-all at the end of full-time.
Macquarie tasted its maiden first grade success back in 2017, knocking-off rivals and powerhouse Dubbo Bulls in a thrilling 4-2 grand final, led by a man of the match performance by goal-scorer Ben Dunlop.
With four Dubbo teams competing in the Western Premier League, no doubt Macquarie will look to stamp its authority to become the leading club from the city.
Orana Spurs
- ASSOCIATION: Dubbo & District Football Association
- FOUNDED: 1992
- MAIN COLOURS: Red and blue
- WPL TITLES: 2001
After missing out on the 2019 Dubbo and District Football Association first grade premiership to great rivals Dubbo Bulls, Orana Spurs will make its return to the Western Premier League in 2020 as one of four clubs from Dubbo.
Spurs' dreams were crushed in the dying minutes of the 2019 grand final, with Bulls captain Scott Fox slotting home a late goal to give Bulls the victory.
And the Spurs-Bulls rivalry is set to continue in 2020, having previously contested three under 18s grand finals in the old Western Premier League, as well as the 2018 Dubbo decider.
They've had success in the Western Premier League in the past, defeating East Dubbo United in the 2001 grand final. Goals from Daniel Hughes and Jamie Rutherford were enough to deliver Orana a 2-1 grand final winner over their city rivals.
Orange Waratahs
- ASSOCIATION: Orange & District Football Association
- MAIN COLOURS: Sky blue and white
- WPL TITLES: 1995, 2000, 2006, 2007
Having won four grand finals, Orange Waratahs were one of the great Western Premier League teams prior to the competition's demise.
Waratahs' championships came in 1995, 2000, 2006 and 2007, putting them on second on the competition's all-time champions list behind Bathurst '75.
Waratahs will be one of two Orange-based clubs competing in the WPL this season, the other being Barnstoneworth United, with the two playing-out a hectic grand final that say 12 cards handed out, as Barnies went on to win 3-1.
Panorama
- ASSOCIATION: Bathurst District Football
- FOUNDED: 2012
- MAIN COLOURS: Red and black
- WPL TITLES: NA
While the club may have been founded just around the time the Western Premier League previously folded, Panorama have gone on in the space of eight years to become one of Bathurst's leading senior sides.
Well known for their vocal fans and parade on grand final day, Panorama - or the Goats, as they've nicknamed themselves - have been one of the loudest voices for reviving the Western Premier League and their hard work has finally paid off.
The club's breakthrough year was in 2018, claiming both the Bathurst District Football men's and women's senior titles, seven years after the club was originally founded.
In 2019, Panorama had two teams in the Bathurst District Football Men's Premier League - Red and Black - however, neither team managed to qualify for the grand final.
Now with a unified senior side in 2020, no doubt Panorama will be looking to stamp its authority in the Central West region, however, time will tell.
Parkes Cobras
- ASSOCIATION: Lachlan Soccer Association
- FOUNDED: 2020
- MAIN COLOURS: TBA
- WPL TITLES: NA
There's not much to be said about the Parkes Cobras at the moment, except that they were specially formed to compete in the Western Premier League.
Cobras will represent the Lachlan Soccer Association, which includes towns likes Parkes and Forbes.
They've been training out at Harrison Park and going off the club's logo on Facebook, it looks like Parkes will sport a purple and black strip.
South Dubbo Wanderers
- ASSOCIATION: Dubbo & District Football Association
- FOUNDED: 1978
- COLOURS: Blue and yellow
- WPL TITLES: NA
According to the club's website, South Dubbo Wanderers boast the largest junior and senior player representation in the Dubbo and District Football Association, claiming to be Dubbo's largest and proudest football club.
The club is one of four Dubbo-based clubs that will compete in the Western Premier League in 2020, with president Matt Stonestreet has been grateful for the competition's revival since the first meeting.
"The vibe at that meeting was very positive and it was great to see everyone with the same opinion; that we're all there to benefit football in the Central West," he said.
Wanderers are the oldest club in the WPL, founded 42 years back in 1978, just pipping Lithgow Workmen's for the honour, who were formed back in 1982.
