The total of 2898 commencing students is an increase on the intake in 2019 (2823), 2018 (2688) and 2017 (2618).
Charles Sturt deputy vice-chancellor (students) Jenny Roberts said the program of events was designed to reflect the changing nature of the on-campus experience for commencing students.
"The orientation days will provide a cohesive and streamlined experience for our commencing students, with a focus on course-based activities and core information," Ms Roberts said.
"The university has gone to great lengths to offer campus-specific schedules with flexibility to facilitate the delivery of useful and engaging activities for our students.
"Charles Sturt University looks forward to welcoming these students to the Bathurst campus and helping them start their studies on the right foot."
The sessions and events offered across the three orientation days fall into three categories:
- Academic: meeting course directors and other academic staff, overviews of course requirements, first class checklists.
- Services and support sessions: discovering support available to help students boost study skills, manage finances, look after their health and more.
- University life: a range of social activities designed to build friendships and social networks.
The sessions started with an official welcome to campus from staff and student representatives on Monday on the library lawn.
Other events scheduled across the three days include movie nights at Metro Cinemas, campus and library tours, a trivia night, scavenger hunt, colour run, comedy night, Indigenous and international student support sessions, and meet-and-greet sessions with social and sporting club representatives.
Charles Sturt director of external engagement for Bathurst Julia Andrews said orientation days were an important milestone for commencing students and part of an ongoing process that is offered by the university.
"Charles Sturt University maintains a schedule of support activities and workshops and organised social events throughout the first session of study," Ms Andrews said.
"Social events are community focused, and aim to connect the students with both the campus as well as with the broader community in which they will be residing for the next three or more years.
"We look forward to meeting our newest students and making sure they feel ready and equipped for their first days of tertiary study."
Orientation days will be held across all Charles Sturt campuses until Friday, February 28.
