The return of the two-tier system in the competition has been welcomed by the two new coaches, who will hope to lead their team to premiership success this season.
"It's super exciting to have reserves back," Archer said, who's formerly coached the Outlaws and Bushrangers prior to the two first grade teams.
"We've been waiting for years to have it back and we loving have ressies."
Earlier this year, the Bushrangers announced Matt Archer and Tim Hunter as the first grade co-coaches, the same pair that guided the Bushrangers Rebels to a flag in the 2019 season.
Archer - who's also served as the Bushrangers president in the past - believes the return to the first-reserves model will help provide a clearer pathway for junior players.
"There was a lot of pressure with the two teams in first grade but the reserve grade team will give us a platform for the youngsters to come through," he said.
"It also attracts some of the older guys who got turned off by just having two first grade teams.
"They might not be as fit to play in first grade, but reserve grade will be a good fit and it'll be fun."
Central West AFL confirmed earlier this month that it would push forward with its plan to move towards a two tiers system.
The league had floated the prospect in late 2019 as a workaround for if clubs are struggling for numbers, with the first and reserve grade teams to have a maximum of 16 players on the field at a time - down from the regulation 18-a-side.
Bench sizes have been slashed in half from six to three in first grade, but up to eight in reserve grade.
Matches will also be shortened from 25 to 22-minute quarters in the top flight and 18 minutes in the second tier, with no time-on.
Archer said the change from 18-a-side to 16-a-side will help benefit some clubs.
"It'll definitely help the teams that are struggling, so we aren't against the move," he said.
"16-a-side will suit the fitter and faster players."
Reserve grade was last played in 2015, with Young Saints - who have since disbanded - winning the last flag.
Bushrangers have won six reserve grade premierships, including in 2004 in the club's maiden since after the merge between Bathurst Eagles and CSU.
The Bushrangers also won the reserve grade grand final in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2014.
Reserve grade was played between 1984-1988 and 1992-2015.
