Heading into the final regular season round of the Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket, Redbacks are in seventh, 10 points behind fourth-placed CYMS.
Redbacks will need to outright this round's opposition Kinross - in fact the students are the only team to suffer an outright defeat this summer - Orange City need to beat CYMS, St Pat's Old Boys need to beat Centennials Bulls and Rugby Union cannot outright Cavaliers, however, it'll be much better for Redbacks if Rugby don't win at all.
Redbacks skipper Joey Coughlan knows it'll be a tough ask to finish in the top four but said his team will give it their all.
"If I was a betting man, I'd either have it getting in or just falling short," he said.
"First and second need to win and we need to outright last, which is how I see it.
"When you say it that way, it sounds a lot better than what it is. We can only control what we can control and that's trying to get the maximum points at Kinross on Saturday."
Claiming an outright win is hard enough, with Cavaliers the only team to do so doing it last weekend against Kinross.
"I was talking to the Orange City boys after last weekend's match and they were at the same conclusion as us that it's so hard to take 20 wickets this season," Coughlan said.
"It was always going to be surprising if anyone got outrighted but if it was going to be anyone, it was going to be Kinross."
Coughlan said having this last ditch effort "kind of sums up the season".
"We're still a chance, but it's unlikely," he said.
"We've had injuries to myself and Ben Orme has been out for a month with a shoulder injury.
"Campbell Baker has had an accident in the family, so he's been unavailable the past few weeks.
"With players missing in key positions, it's pretty hard to win in this comp.
"The comp is so strong and I don't think the Bathurst teams realised our strong the Orange teams would be, even across the past few years with how dominant the Bathurst rep teams have been against Orange."
Redbacks versus Kinross will get underway at Morse Park 1 at 1.30pm.
In other games, St Pat's Old Boys play Centennials at the Scots Campus in an Bathurst-clash that will decide one of the two final spots remaining, Rugby Union host ladder-leaders Cavaliers at the Sportsground, City Colts travel to Orange to play Centrals at Riawena Oval and CYMS face-off against finals-confirmed Orange City at Wade Park.
