Buoyed by the reaction to the trip he organised to drought-battered Boorowa in December, Bathurst Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association (CPSA) member Les May has a new initiative on the go.
He has placed fundraising tins at Mountain Meats and Sushi Park in the Bathurst City Centre and Trinity Newsagency and Hen and Bow Espresso at Trinity Heights and will be collecting money for the next month.
It will be used to buy school uniforms for Wyangala Dam Public School and outdoor furniture for Woodstock Public School, both of which have been affected by the state's big dry.
In the case of Woodstock, some students have to sit on logs when they are outside, so the Bathurst CPSA hopes to raise enough money to buy a new eight to 10-seater table and chairs so all the school community can be accommodated.
Mr May said the tins will be collected on Friday, March 27 and the Bathurst CPSA members will travel to Woodstock and Wyangala Dam on Tuesday, March 31.
The Bathurst CPSA's bus trip to Boorowa in December delivered hay to farmer Judy Mitchell, as well as providing business for the cafe she runs in the town.
