Spartan Australian Obstacle Course Races will arrive in Oberon for the first time, asking the region's competitors to give it their all across a five kilometre challenge.
The 5km 'Spartan Sprint' race will cram 20 obstacles into its distance, targeted at athletes of all abilities.
CrossFit 2795's Dan George said the beauty of the event is it caters to two of the group's main focus points: Building fitness and supporting each other as a team.
"It's about the unknown, and at Spartan you get to have a bit of fun with the five kilometre race and it suits our focus on community spirit," he said.
"We'll all get in there for a bit of fun and a bit of a laugh and have plenty of good times throwing ourselves at the unknown and the unknowable."
CrossFit 2795 will field a team of 20 for the event while some will take on tougher challenges at an individual level.
Those competitors on the more adventurous side will try out the 'Spartan Beast' course which will thrown 30 obstacles at people over a half marathon trek.
Some competitors will be eager to give the longer event a crack but George is keen to see what those new to Spartan will get out of the experience.
"There's a few doing this sort of thing for the first time, and a couple of the Believe Bootcampers there as well. This is something out of their comfort zone and there's been a few questions throughout the week of "Am I fit enough?" but it's great to see them having a crack," he said.
"It's great for the region and for Oberon for them to be able to bring an event like this out here. I think the track out there will be challenge, possibly a wet track as well.
"I did one of these for the first time maybe seven years ago and they always put on a good show. There's a great variety in obstacles."
At this stage a muddy edition of Spartan Oberon is looking likely.
Rain is predicted to carry over into Friday morning with a small chance of showers across both Saturday and Sunday.
It's certain to add to the experience and the challenge for the Bathurst participants, who will be among hundreds of competitors ready to take on both courses.
Meanwhile, CrossFit 2795's Ash Corby has begun her Australian CrossFit Championship campaign on the Gold Coast, which will be running from Thursday through to Sunday.
Corby is no stranger to the national CrossFit level, having earned her place through online qualifiers, and will be up against 31 other competitors to decide who will win the Australian crown.
