And now, the two businesses are set to become one entity: Bathurst Regional Security.
Managing director Hywel Blake, formerly the general manager of Smith and Co. Security, said the main motivation behind the new venture was to keep the company local.
"I was approached by Ken [Mitchell, Mitchell Security Services owner] last year with an offer to purchase the business, and we agreed it was a great idea to pool our expertise together," Mr Blake said.
"The two companies have been institutions in the Bathurst area, and now we'll have more staff and resources to improve our efficiency in delivering vital security services."
Mr Blake said the new business model will allow a range of services, such as alarm and CCTV installations, security guards and cash escorts, to be delivered with greater ease.
"With twice the workforce, we've already noticed improvements to our response times and efficiency," he said.
"This industry requires us to be on the go 24/7 and the greater pool of staff allows us to answer the needs of a wider range of customers.
Bathurst Regional Security is set to unveil a new logo in the coming weeks.
Mr Blake said the business is responsible for security at up to 80 per cent of Bathurst's major community events.
"The only events we don't provide security for are the larger events that bring in outside staff, such as the Bathurst 1000 and Sir Elton John's recent concert," he said.
"All of our staff live locally, which works to our advantage at major events due to our knowledge of the area."
Mr Blake said the combination of the two businesses will help secure the future of employment opportunities in the local security sector.
"We want to prove that you don't have to leave a regional area for a job in security," he said.
"Around 40 people are employed through our business and with so many services coming under the umbrella of security, there's always something happening."
