Explore the innovative ways that concrete is being used, the works of a well-renowned Orange-based architect and the experiences of an individual immigrating to Australia from wartorn Europe.
Concrete: art design architecture is a major exhibition that explores the innovative ways in which concrete is being used by artists, designers and architects in Australia in the 21st century.
This exhibition features 21 artists, designers and architects from across Australia and brings together products, projects and works of art that reflect many of the current preoccupations with concrete within contemporary art, design and architecture.
John Andrews: The Practical Outsider features a Sydney architect who has been hailed as the face of modernism, designing the Cameron and Callam Offices in Canberra and the American Express Tower in Sydney.
In this exhibition Tim Ross, the creator of the award-winning ABC series Streets of Your Town, begins an examination of Andrews' legacy through an interview filmed with the architect at his home.
Jurgis Miksevicius: In the light of the sun and shadow of the moon showcases Miksevicius' displacement from wartorn Europe, his time at the Bathurst Migrant Camp, the development of his practice with particular focus on the region and paintings relating to In the light of the sun and shadow of the moon paintings.
The exhibitions are complemented by a series of free public programs including:
- A floor talk with Jurgis Miksevicius' daughter Carolyn Leigh on Saturday, March 28 at 2pm providing a unique perspective of Miksevicius' art and life.
- On Saturday, May 9 at 11am, a Jurgis Miksevicius: In the light of the sun and shadow of the moon panel discussion looking at life in the Bathurst Migrant Camp through the experience of Jurgis. This discussion will bring together his daughter Carolyn Leigh, Bathurst historian Christopher Morgan, architect Henry Bialowas, and Bathurst Historical Society Museum curator Samantha Friend.
Concrete: art design architecture, John Andrews: The practical outsider and Jurgis Miksevicius: In the light of the sun and shadow of the moon will continue until Sunday, May 10.
