The work on the Mitchell Highway involves excavating pits beside the road and taking samples.
It will take place at five locations along a 17 kilometre section of highway.

Work will take place on weekdays between 7.30am and 5.30pm from Monday, March 23 and is expected to be completed in three weeks, weather permitting.
Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanked motorists for their patience during this time.
