The Amanda Ginn-trained Hectic Like That ($15) found the lead early from box eight and managed to hold on by three quarters of a length to beat Drunken Kid ($3.60, Mervyn Townsend).
Hectic Like That picked up his first win for new trainer Ginn in a time of 26.39.
"There was a change in kennel and he's been with us for his last three starts and he hasn't missed a place yet," Ginn said.
"He's come along to us looking for a bit further in distance so we're just poking along looking to get his fitness up.
"He's settled in great. Sometimes a change in kennels doesn't go well for some of them but he loves it at home and his owners will be stoked."
The winner wasn't the only shock of the race. The $71 shot Diamond Emlin finished third.
