CA "strongly recommended" that all amateur cricket in the country stop immediately due to the threat of coronavirus, cutting the last two weekends of the Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket season.

And while it was a harsh way for St Pat's to end its 2019-20 season, Matt Fearnley said the club is still proud of what it achieved.

"Bailey Brien to get two centuries in a season, Ben Cant and Cooper Brien to come through our junior system, there's definitely a lot of positive things to look at," he said.

"Connor Slattery has really stepped up this season. For us as a leadership group, we're really proud of what we've achieved regardless of the result this season."

While they didn't know it at the time, St Pat's played its last game of the season last weekend against CYMS.

Rain had washed out play and St Pat's batted all Sunday for the match to finish in a draw, meaning the Bathurst team progressed to the preliminary final against Cavaliers as the higher-ranked team.

However, the match against this season's minor premiers this weekend will not go ahead.

In fact, Orange City - who defeated Cavaliers in the major semi-final last weekend - were awarded the title after being the first team through to the decider.

Fearnley said it was a tough way for his side to end its season.

"If you look back at the last month, we were on track to have a good shot at having a run all the way to the grand final," he said.

"But as the events were developing, we knew it was a matter of player safety and welfare. That came first obviously.

"In terms of the season, it's tough with the hard work we've put in. For the cricket season to end how it did, it's unfortunate but for me personally, if you look at the bigger picture, cricket will always be there.

"The scenario is we could lose loved ones if we don't take the approach that we did. We just looked at it from the angle that there is a reason we didn't play and it's probably for the best."

While there was never going to be a solution that would please everyone, Fearnley said it was a fair decision to award Orange City the title.

"Cricket is based on luck. A game could come down to a lucky catch and I guess there's no perfect ending," he said.

"Everyone is probably entitled to it but there has to be a winner and Orange City won the last playable game. So they deserve it in that aspect."

Statistically, St Pat's lost just the one game all BOIDC season, with two draws for rain and another for a smoke haze.

"That's cricket. You lose one game all season and finish third," he said.

"For us, we've done everything we could possibly do and that's one of the outcomes we can't control. Luck just hasn't gone our way, that's just cricket."

It's unsure when cricket will be allowed to be played again in Bathurst but players will be hopeful they'll be back playing at the start of next season.
