TALK about a wild week for golf courses across Australia.
Bathurst Golf Club has reopened its course just two days after believing they would be going into an indefinite lockdown during the coronavirus outbreak - only to be informed they could continue operations on Wednesday.
Golf appeared to have escaped the hold of coronavirus closures until a directive from Golf Australia and Golf NSW told clubs to shut their doors from Tuesday, and Bathurst acted immediately on that recommendation.
It didn't last long.
The club will open again from Thursday after a new statement from Golf Australia
It had been a challenging week for the Bathurst Golf Club who, just a fortnight ago, had special events like the men's club championships and the Bathurst Gold Crown Ambrose event lined up, ready to go ahead.
At the start of last week the club had to pull the pin on both those events, to avoid large crowds, but it was followed up by even tougher news that the course would have to close.
The club championships had been looking at a 200-plus field for the men's edition, which came just several weeks after a successful edition of the women's championships.
With the course now continuing operations, Bathurst Golf Club will still be implementing strict measures to help prevent the potential spread of the virus.
Flags will still remain in place, rakes will not be used for bunkers and only one person can use a golf cart.
"After reconsideration, the office of sport in the NSW government has been advised that golf is considered an activity that can continue to be played in line with public health orders," the statement read.
"People must not participate in groups greater than two persons at any point in time and social distancing must be maintained."
Bathurst Golf Club manager Brad Constable on Wednesday said members must continue to show diligence in line with the restrictions in place.
"Our board met this morning and we re-opened on the proviso that it's limited to two people ... and that they continue to social distance," he said.
