With the coronavirus pandemic preventing many people from leaving home, businesses have had to adapt the way they deliver their services to help their customers and to keep the doors open.
Mountain Meats has been no different, and it recently introduced Buy Local Boxes of meat that customers can have delivered to their homes.
Owner Paul Smith said it has been a challenge to create an online platform for the business, but it has been a beneficial move.
"We're trying to get the infrastructure up for Facebook and get it ready; it's come along a bit too quick, if you know what I mean, but we're taking half our money online," he said.
"We started doing some deliveries and it has worked out so well. People have responded because basically they are getting great value and a range they wouldn't normally get I suppose.
"It's opened our eyes to that sort of line."
Mountain Meats started offering a Buy Local Box in late March and now has three different meat boxes available for order, which can be delivered to essentially anywhere within a 50-kilometre radius of Bathurst.
The Big Local Box, valued at $149.99, includes two kilograms of local grass fed beef mince, two kilograms of thin gluten-free sausages, one kilogram of chicken breast schnitzels, one kilogram of USA pork ribs, one kilogram of slowcooker grass fed chuck steak, one kilogram of grass fed rump steak, and an RSPCA approved whole chicken.
Mr Smith said this box can give the average family about a two-week supply of meat.
"It averages out to be about $10 to $15 a meal," he said.
Also on offer is the $99.99 Kiddo Box.
This comes with 125 chicken nuggets, one kilogram of buffalo wings, a six-pack of burgers, four Italian pinwheels, one kilogram of meatballs and one kilogram of thin sausages.
Pet owners are also covered with the $19.99 Doggy Box, which includes three kilograms of chicken mince, two kilograms of brisket bones, a huge marrow bone and a tennis ball.
The dog box was developed due to demand.
"People want that sort of product because it's fresh and it's accessible and it's easy to get, whereas a lot of other stuff has preservatives, things like that, all the nasties," Mr Smith said.
People who would like to order a box are asked to send a text message 0417 721 202. The Mountain Meats Facebook page is being updated regularly with information about boxes and specials.
The shop remains open in the Bathurst City Centre for other needs.
