COVID-19: NSW restrictions easing, but Bathurst couple will stay at home

These days, Elton John's sell-out concert in Bathurst on January 22 seems like a distant memory for the couple, who have been in self-isolation for the past two months due to coronavirus.

Unlike many people who are chomping at the bit to visit friends and family when NSW Government restrictions ease on Friday, they will be staying home.

"I would love to race out the front door on Friday. We've had a new grandchild who was born last week and we haven't even met her," Mrs Phillips said.

"But my husband is a stroke patient and he's at a higher risk, so we we're prepared to stay in."

In order to keep her husband as healthy as can be amid the worldwide pandemic, the couple made a decision to stay indoors before the government made it mandatory.

"We're so lucky in Bathurst that so many businesses will deliver, so we've not really had to leave the house," Mrs Phillips said.

Hobbies have kept the couple busy.

"I do a lot of craft and I'm in the CWA [Country Women's Association], so I've been doing a lot of cooking," Mrs Phillips said.

"Glenn has been watching a lot of movies or doing his bonsai."

There are an awful lot of reasons why the couple would like to head outside on Friday, including three children and two grandchildren, but they fear the virus more and say it's safer to stay home a little longer.

"Our new grandchild [Eliora] was born last week in Sydney. We haven't even met her yet, but we've had lots of FaceTime with her," Mrs Phillips said.

"It'll happen when the time is right. The last thing we want to do is see her get ill.

"We'll just wait and see what happens ... we've made a family decision that we just have to do what's right as a family."
