Right now, Bathurst is enjoying a purple patch when it comes to water amidst a drought that has stricken the state for several years now.
However, it's times like this that the people of Bathurst cannot afford to become complacent when it comes to saving water.
Bathurst mayor Bobby Bourke has called on the local community to continue following water restrictions.
"We can't afford to relax with our water use," he said.
"We've got to continue down the track of abiding by our restrictions. We're still in level four and look, we don't want to go any higher.
"The community has done a great job on conserving our limitations on the water we use out of the dam and that's why the dam is starting to increase in its capacity.
"We're using a lot of water out of Fish River at the moment, so the water from our dam isn't really getting used. We want it to get back up to levels where we don't have to have restrictions and that won't happen until we're around 70 per cent full at least."
Cr Bourke said the rain over the past week has been "magnificent".
"The rain falling in town has been magnificent. It's saved a lot of people," he said.
"You notice all their gardens and lawns, green and growing at the moment.
"Autumn in Bathurst is a very special time and you can see the leaves falling and we want to make sure they're coming back. We've still got to conserve our water though."
A red level alert remains in place for the dam, meaning there's no water related recreational activities allowed at the dam.
Water restrictions remain at an extreme level, with watering only permitted before 10am or after 4pm on Sundays and Wednesdays only.
Watering can only take place for a maximum of 30 minutes water running time using buckets or watering cans.
