CITY Colts started looking ahead to the 2020-21 Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket season probably two-thirds of the way through their most recent season of troubled games.

Even though the first re-formed season of the inter association competition did not pan out the way Colts had hoped for, they still came away happy to see the two cities' leading teams playing each other again and enjoying a tougher standard of cricket.
The explosive batting lineup couldn't find the means to channel that energy into an appropriate level for two day cricket, and that left them as the bottom placed Bathurst side when all was said and done.
But could a change in format be the tonic Colts need to boost their hopes in the BOIDC season?
Colts' Pat Hill said the team were "found out" in the early stages of the competition and from there the once-favourites never really got their season going.
Hill is open to changes in the BOIDC's format, not necessarily because the Colts outfit are a more intimidating one-day opponent, but because it could inject an added level of excitement into the season.
"I think it was never going to be perfect straight away ... and I think an all-two-day competition does drag on a bit. If there was, say, a full round of one-dayers then two dayers in your home town then that might break things up a bit more," he said.
"I think Orange definitely play two day cricket better than the Bathurst sides, with the exception of Pat's, and I think a switch could help a few Bathurst teams. In general we're a bit explosive, especially our boys, but I'm happy either way.
"I expect there would be some changes but we're all on board and just happy to be there.
"Everyone was just feeling each other out and everyone will go into next season with a better idea of what to expect."
Colts as a group are right behind the BOIDC's re-formation and Hill said despite a tough welcome back into the combined competition it was an experience to savour.
"It was obviously disappointing how we played and it definitely gave us something to look at for next season. We went into the competition with everyone saying we were going to win it," he said.
"From what I've heard from all the boys they really enjoyed it. The travel wasn't an issue, playing at Wade Park was great, and I thought all the Orange teams play in a different way to the Bathurst ones. We also got found out a bit on how to play two day cricket.
"That gives us some building blocks for where to improve and not finish eighth again."
Colts picked up just two wins across the 2019-20 season, and those both came within the last three rounds of the competition when finals hopes were dashed.
