National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) will be held on Wednesday, with the organisers making sure that COVID-19 won't interfere with the annual event.
Bathurst Library is again participating and will be streaming live on Facebook from 10.45am.
The library's programs team leader Victoria Murray said that, in addition to the story, there will be other activities included in Wednesday's stream.
"Our storytime stars from the library team will be reading the book this year with dramatisation, props and sound effects," she said.
"The team will start with storytime rhymes and songs at 10.45am and be ready to read Chicken Divas at 11am sharp along with over one million other participants across the nation in what is the 20th successful year for NSS."
The book they will all be reading is Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas, which was written and illustrated by Lucinda Gifford.
People will be encouraged to join in the fun in a variety of ways.
"Different to previous years children, school groups and viewers at home can get involved by sharing on social media pictures of them dressed up as chickens for the event, pictures of their diva pets and by colouring in a NSS colouring sheet to win a prize, kindly donated by BooksPlus Bathurst, using the hashtags #NSS2020 and #openforbusinessbutdifferently," Ms Murray said.
She added that NSS is an opportunity to bring people together in a difficult time.
"We encourage everyone to tune in for the live session and engage with us virtually," she said.
