Bathurst Panthers to reopen from June 1, Bathurst RSL by the middle of month

Panthers Bathurst will reopen to the public from Monday - the first day of the new eased restrictions - while the Bathurst RSL is hoping to be back operating for dine-in meals by the middle of the month.

Panthers general manager John Fearnley said it's exciting that the club to open.

"The most pleasing thing for me is that we'll be able to bring our staff back in," he said.

"Obviously they won't be on the same hours they were on before this all started, but it'll get them back into work and get them back into some normality.

"I'm sure that our members will be keen to get back into the place as well."

Panthers will have the bistro and its coffee shop open, which will cater for 50 people in each area.

And while Panthers will open up from June 1, Bathurst RSL general manager Peter Sargent said his club will wait a little longer before it reopens its doors, with no firm date locked in.

"We won't be opening on June 1, however, I'm really pleased about the announcement on Friday," he said.

"It's certainly encouraging to see such a significant increase, when we were previously thinking that we might only be allowed 20 by mid-June.

"We have now gone, to what I understand, to having 50 people in each restaurant or cafe."

"How I'm interpreting that is that we have the coffee shop and we have the bistro, so my view is that we'll have 50 people in each of those outlets."

While the easing of restrictions is a step in the right direction, Mr Sargent said it's no where near enough to make the RSL viable long term.

"We normally have 500 to 600 people in the place on a Friday night, so having 100 is a step in the right direction," he said.

"However, it's important to note that the club will not be viable until we get back to being able to have more people in the club.

"I'm encouraged by the announcement, it's a great step forward but it's certainly not near enough to make us viable until we get back to those normal numbers.

"We'll be aiming to have the club's doors open in June, just not what date yet. It'll definitely not be on June 1. We're just not ready."

The RSL recently introduced takeaway almost two weeks ago, however, Panthers have been unable to provide a similar service, with both shut since March.

Both clubs have used the opportunity to get some much needed renovations done, which normally wouldn't have been a possibility while operating seven days a week.

While pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants can have up to 50 customers from June 1, each outlet will have to subject to a one person per four square metre rule and with strict social distancing guidelines.

All venues will need to develop a COVID Safety Plan consistent with NSW Health guidelines too.
