However, for Pat McGarry and Michael Buttsworth of McGuttsworth Smoked Meats Burger Company, their new business has gone from strength to strength.
McGuttsworth was meant to have its first ever event night at the Victoria Hotel back in March, however, the introduction of coronavirus restrictions prevented the event from happening.
But instead of waiting for restrictions to ease, the two jumped on the opportunity of home deliveries.
"We originally had a couple of events lined up at the Victoria Hotel and BoxGrove to start with," Mr McGarry said.
"We wanted to do something because we had been teasing it for months online. We thought we'd keep the momentum going and home deliveries were the way to go."
The two met at work 13 years ago and coined the term 'McGuttsworth', a combination of their last names.
"The name itself came together a long time ago but we started cooking together last year. Michael bought a smoker and we started cooking some things up on it," Mr McGarry said.
"I really enjoy American burgers and I've always been into food, so we just developed from weekend cooks to thinking maybe we could sell some of this stuff."
Since March, McGuttsworth have been cooking every fortnight, with orders being taken from Wednesday until sold out, with customers being able to pick-up their meals or get it delivered on Sunday.
Orders have been limited but that cap has slowly increased each time.
The McGuttsworth team originally cooked at the Victoria Hotel, however, due to renovations there, they've been cooking out of the Elephant and Castle kitchens since.
And when asked whether the two will continue with home deliveries when everything goes back to normal, they're undecided.
"The way people eat and the way they dine out will potentially change. Potentially, we might do a combination of both [events and home delivery]," Mr Buttsworth said.
"COVID has, for our home delivery, probably given us the best case scenario. People are stuck at home, their options have been limited, so we've jumped right in with a new product and they've jumped on it."
Both McGarry and Mr Buttsworth wanted thank local businesses for their support when starting up, especially thanking Campbell Gibson and Annette Amerid of the Elephant and Castle.
