The Nathan Hurst-trained and Angela Hedges-driven Tulhurst Terror ($8.50) flew home along the pegs to score by 2.4m over favourite Lotta Laughs ($2.40, Jake Davis) and Dontch See It ($9.50, Nathan Turnbull).

It was just the fourth career victory for the Western Terror gelding who has picked up a lopsided tally of 44 placings over his 100 starts.

"He doesn't really like to win too much but he does like to finish second a lot," she laughed.

"He's very honest and is more of a place horse than a winning horse. He does enjoy going down the inside of the track more than the outside."

The slow opening quarters of 32.2 and 31.6 couldn't have inspired much confidence in any drivers sitting towards the second half of the field.

When the pace gradually dialled up over the back half of the race it left a lot of the horses peeling out wide with a lot of work to do.

Dontch See It had managed to gain a small break on the field turning for home and Turnbull might not have been expected the challenge arriving on his inside.

Tulhurst Terror arrived on the scene with fury and continued to pull away to win in a mile rate of 2:00.3.

The Restauranteur ($5.50, Mat Rue) came down the outside of the track to run fourth.

Hedges was thankful that she was able to save ground along the pegs and in behind runners because the pace wasn't red hot.

"I was glad that I wasn't on the outside and had to come wide over that last quarter because they were going to to rip home," she said.

"It opened up good and we took that bit of luck. I knew he was right in it," she said.

Hurst had tried his luck with Tulhurst Terror in the TAB Western Region Championships, and the five-year-old did enough to earn a place in a consolation event, although he ran home seventh.

The drop in grade for Wednesday's race turned out to be just what he needed, picking up his first ever career win on his home track.
