Police are investigating an act of animal cruelty after a dead wallaby was found hanging from a tree at Wynyard.
The wallaby was suspended from a tree in a recreational reserve near Saunders Street.
"This act of animal cruelty is deeply concerning," Sergeant Craig Harvey from Wynyard Police Station said.
"It's also concerning that the wallaby was left in a public place, in plain sight of innocent members of our community.
"Police are asking anyone who knows anything about this incident to come forward."
The incident was also reported to the Waratah-Wynyard Council on Tuesday morning.
"We are disappointed that someone in the community would do something like this to an animal," General manager Shane Crawford said.
Murchison MLC Ruth Forrest condemned the act as a "horrid act of cruelty".
