Wear Red Day, which is now in its third year, is set to be one of the biggest mufti days on record as students from Bathurst and Kelso High join their counterparts in another 50 schools in the region in raising money for the charity.
And they want businesses and other organisations to join in.
All students and teachers participating in the day make a gold coin donation to the charity, which helps support sick kids and their families from across the Central West.
Bathurst High principal Ken Barwick, who came up with the idea to hold Wear Red Day three years ago, said Ronald McDonald House in Orange, like many community organisations, had struggled during the COVID-19 crisis.
"Hundreds of families from across regional NSW rely heavily on the support they receive from Ronald McDonald House," he said.
"It is their home away from home for sick kids and their families.
"The annual Wear Red mufti day and barbecue will help raise some vital funds which will be forwarded directly to our local Ronald McDonald House.
"Staff at Ronald McDonald House Orange are always happy to open their doors and show the wider public the amazing work they do on a daily basis."
Mr Barwick is encouraging schools, businesses and other organisations to register and participate in Wear Red Day by going to bit.ly/wearredday20 or https://www.facebook.com/Wear-Red-Day-2020-103763508049388/?modal=admin_todo_tour
