The Keppel Street studio, featuring three tattoo artists and one body piercer, has been full of life catching up with new and regular body art clients after 10 weeks away.
"It's been a hectic first week, and we've been feeling the love from everyone," Skin Fantasy co-owner Sando Black said.
"We were lucky enough to qualify for JobKeeper and small business grants to help us through the lockdown, but we're definitely glad to be back."
Sando, who has owned Skin Fantasy with partner Peter Standen for over 30 years, said the studio has implemented plenty of COVID-safe strategies in place to give customers peace of mind.
"We have a register at the front desk for all visitors to record their contact details should any future COVID-19 outbreaks arise," she said.
"All our artists are wearing masks to carry out work, and we're also encouraging people to make appointments via phone and social media to control numbers in the studio."
For Skin Fantasy's staff, it's been a matter of returning to where they left off.
Tattoo artist Duane James, who ran a host of popular online drawing classes during the lockdown, said he's been busy catching up with design work.
"I stayed up until 2am after one of our first days back focusing on catch-up work," Duane said.
"Working within the restrictions will take some getting used to, as we have to be consistent with wearing masks and ensuring people come alone to get work done."
Fellow tattoo artist Rowey [Natasha Rowe] also noted the sheer number of people itching to get work done after the COVID period.
"We had to get many people in prior to the lockdown as well to finish jobs off," Rowey said.
"That first day back definitely felt like coming home again."
