Tyquin felt a placing was possible with Turbo Tank ($5) but the win came as a big shock to the trainer, who is hopeful it will be the first of more to come.
"It's unbelievable. I didn't expect it but I'll take it when I can get it," he said.
"Winning like that is absolutely brilliant. He's a Fernando Bale who's around 18 months old and I just put him in here to get a start.
"I didn't expect him to win but it's a big bonus."
After a strong start to Monday's race Turbo Tank would go on to beat Shadforth Kid ($26, Rob Littlefield) and his kennelmate Silver Armour ($5.50).
But getting to that point was no easy feat.
Silver Armour and odds-on favourite Testimony ($1.95, Greg Hore) both got away stronger than Turbo Tank and threatened to cross him to the rail.
It's unbelievable. I didn't expect it but I'll take it when I can get it.

But Turbo Tank did just enough to get his body in the way of that plan and - in a stroke of good fortune - squeezed the favourite out of the early battle.
Turbo Tank then started his mission to hunt down his kennelmate, which he achieved halfway through the turn for home.
He then went on with the job to add a bit of breathing room to his margin, winning in a time of 26.53.
It was a matter of centimetres standing between Tyquin and the quinella but Shadforth Kid's bold chasing effort saw him nab the runner-up spot by a nose in a photo finish.
Turbo Tank continued an impressive start to the meeting for Tyquin after Buck Ends Here ($10) took a surprise win in the NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden (307m) to start the meeting.
Buck Ends Here recovered from an average start to quickly hit the lead and run out a three length winner.
