Premier Gladys Berejiklian outlined on Tuesday tough new compliance measures for NSW hotels that will limit group bookings to 10 people and place a cap of 300 on the number of customers inside a venue following a concerning rise in COVID-19 cases across the state.
At the same time, anyone showing even minor symptoms is being urged to take a COVID-19 test, and Bathurst residents have been lining up to do just that.
In the past four weeks there have been 1925 COVID-19 tests (all negative) within the Bathurst region and more than 10,000 across the Western NSW Local Health District.
A spokesperson for the health district said it was a crucial time in the spread of the virus and that it was "essential that we all take the risk of transmission very seriously and take steps to protect ourselves and loved ones".
"If you have even mild symptoms, a cold or cough, get tested and stay home until you're cleared," the spokesperson said.
"Keep your distance from others at all times even if you are well [and] if you have been in Victoria, don't mix with other people until two weeks have passed.
"People who work in high-risk settings such as health care facilities or aged care homes must not attend work if they have symptoms and must get tested immediately.
"People should also not visit relatives in these settings if they have even the mildest of symptoms or have recently returned from Victoria."
As of Tuesday morning, there were 85 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, with one in intensive care. This person has not required a ventilator.
In NSW, 2799 people are known to have recovered from COVID-19 so far.
Anyone feeling unwell, even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat, is urged to seek testing and self-isolate.
"It is essential people follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing of 1.5 metres, cough or sneeze into their elbow, and regularly wash their hands," the spokesperson said.
