Morrissey's sideline conversion was one of the highlights for the Bathurst Bulldogs women on Saturday as they suffered a 36-21 loss to the Dubbo Kangaroos in Dubbo.
Having impressed as a member of Souths' Premier League Hockey side in season's past, Morrissey made her Ferguson Cup debut on Saturday. She was one of a host of new faces for the Bulldogs.
"Daisy Morrissey, she played in the second row and was a gun there. She was also our goal-kicker for today and she went excellent," Bulldogs skipper Ali Stanford said.
"She slotted one from the sideline, it was pretty good from her as we hadn't done much training at all with goal kicking.
"We went down but I don't think the score really reflected how we played, we had a heap of new girls and they really stepped up which was really good."
Just as it was a different-look Bulldogs side to the one which beat Orange Emus in last season's grand final, the Dubbo Kangaroos have also made a host of changes.
Forbes ace LillyAnn Mason-Spice has made the switch this season, while ACT Brumbies Super W talent Rebecca Smyth is part of the line up too. Add Alahna Ryan into that mix as well and it shows that the Roos are a huge threat.
That trio all crossed as Kangaroos shot out to lead by more than 20 points, but the Bulldogs rallied in the final quarter to pull some of that margin back.
"We came back in the last 10 minutes, we were down like 30-7 at one stage, but we made a few forward line changes, put a few normal faces back into the forwards and got two quick tries through Mardi Watts and had a mad comeback," Stanford said.
"I said to the girls not to be too hard on yourselves. We had a squad last year and probably two to three years went into that squad. We've had a heap of players move on and a new set come in.
"So to turn around and get that type of score for our first hit out was really good. I'm really proud of all the girls."
