Rockn N Rolln chases his eighth win of the season in Wednesday's night's Central West Plumbing and Gasfitting Pace (2,260 metres) at Bathurst Paceway, and the hobble-less pacer will be one to watch.
The seven-year-old won well at Dubbo last start and prior to that he ran fourth behind Gold Chalice runner-up Perfect Stride on the back of a sensational last quarter sprint along the pegs.
Rockn N Rolln hit the line just as quickly - if not, slightly faster - than the well-backed leading duo of Perfect Stride and Seeuinnashville, who got home in a final quarter of 26 seconds.
The Oberon trainer felt he could have been even closer to the top three at Menangle if he changed his approach to the race.
"That last quarter was unbelievable. They went a bit slower in the middle there and I was a bit cranky with myself because I drove him a bit negatively and I expected Luke [McCarthy] to have led [on Seeuinnashville] but he let the favourite go, which put me three fence," he said.
"He then went great at Dubbo. His whole attitude has changed running with no hobbles. He's like a whole new horse.
"He's won four of his last six. He's won 14 races and six of those have been this year with no hobbles on. He's been terrific."
Rockn N Rolln is sure to be one of the better-backed runners for this Wednesday's event but has an tough draw from gate six to contend with.
Not only that, there's plenty of talent inside of him on the front row that will pose a threat.
Rock Bottom is primed to bounce back after a disappointing result last race and could lead from gate three.
Lets Katchmeifucan, Kash Us Back and Ziggy Rocks were all bested by Rockn N Rolln last start but they're draws give them the chance to offer up a challenge.
"I'm feeling confident. I've been racing a couple of these horses and Bathurst and Dubbo, like Bernie's horse [Lets Katchmeifucan] and Gemma's horse [Kash Us Back]," Watterson said.
"The one I'm worried about is Rock Bottom. He didn't go as good last week and I think there will be a bit of improvement this week.
"It depends on what he wants to do. I'm drawn in the six and he's in the three so we'll just wait and see."
Watterson also has Wattos Mate running in the last event of the night.
The three-year-old colt picked up the first win of his young career during his recent start at Dubbo, where he thrashed the field from a death seat trip.
He's drawn the outside gate for the three-year-old's event at Bathurst.
Racing at Bathurst gets started from 5.07pm.
