Hodges and Simons set new fastest times over the club's 23 kilometre individual time trial course, putting their solo prowess on show.
The magic half hour barrier was broken by A grade rider Hodges with his electric time of 29:47, more than a minute clear of closest rival Mark Windsor (31:01), while Simons stormed to victory in B grade with her mark of 33:46.
The course was an extended version of the existing 15km course, which goes out and back from Perthville to the Wimbledon-Trunkey Road intersection, and instead began from the clubhouse.
Simons said it was a thrill to see so many people sign up for the first round of the road series.
"It's exciting to take the win running that course for the first time, and also exciting to finish seventh overall. I was pretty happy with that and it was quite unexpected," she said.
"I was so good to see so many people out there as well, given the current circumstances. There were 48 people out there.
"Normally in the time trial you get to Georges Plains and you empty the tank with everything you've got but now you have to save that extra little bit to get from Perthville to the clubhouse, especially because it gets quite open there too."
Windsor pipped Craig Hutton in the battle for the runner-up spot by just four seconds.
