HE had a new bike, he had a new passenger, he had a podium finish in the final and Bathurst sidecar racer Sean Griffiths also had a whole lot of fun as the Cowra Motorcycle Club staged its first official club day of 2020.

With the COVID-19 pandemic having forced the cancellation or postponement of many events this year, Cowra's meeting at Woodstock on Sunday attracted a strong turnout across all classes.
Bathurst riders were amongst those to shine with Ben Grabham winning the Pro Open class, while in the 85cc two-stroke and 150cc four-stroke class Noah Grabham took the honours.
For Griffiths, who was joined by experienced Sydney passenger Tommy White, there was also plenty of promise as they battled a full grid of sidecars. The Shadows Racing pairing improved across each of the three-lap races they contested together.
"I have a new bike this year and a temporary new passenger as my former passenger has moved on to another team, so we are still working out the bike and paring up together. But if our first full race together is anything to go by, well I'm very happy with what's ahead," Griffiths said.
"All rounds on the day were close, fast racing with positions and winners changing every race. We managed some great starts and fast times, mixing it with both former state and Australian title holders and some great placings in the heats.
"The bike never missed a beat and we were getting more settled together and working the bike out every lap."
Griffiths and White ran third in the final and after the points from across the day were tallied, the Bathurst team sat fourth outright.
It is a good sign as Shadows Racing works towards the Quirindi Long Track event in September.
"In the final we got a great start and bumped and bounced until we all settled into position on the first lap," Griffiths said.
"With only three laps per race there is no time to play around and everyone was riding hard. We managed third in the final and were very happy."
Under its revised calendar Cowra plans to run six club events - one each fortnight.
