If the two blues want to remain a realistic chance of playing finals hockey then they must knock over Orange Ex-Services at Bob Roach Field this Saturday.
Souths find themselves as the only team left in the competition yet to find a win, which is a surprising fact given their bursts of quality hockey this season.
But that's the problem - they've come in bursts.
Coach Chris Stafford said the basics have to be in order before Souths can consider stringing together a complete performance.
"Doing the basics will make a big difference. That will help us get on a roll," he said.
"We've had some great passages of play throughout the year but they've been few and far between. We've put together one really solid quarter this season, and that came against Parkes the other week where we put away two goals.
"We can do it but I'm not sure what the solution is to get it happening all the time. When they do click it looks really good."
A win over CYMS last week might have allowed Souths to breathe a bit easier but the 3-0 defeat has piled the pressure on.
They currently sit on two points with Bathurst City and CYMS ahead of them on four.
Victory could take Souths up to as high as fifth on the ladder and breathe life back into their season with just two rounds to go.
However, the team need other results to start going their way even if they do manage to go on a winning run over the final three rounds of the season.
Stafford will do some shuffling to help try and bring the best out of Souths in attack, believing something has to change in order to bring out the best in the side.
"It's not a great spot to be in, having to rely on other teams. All we can do is see how we'll go," he said.
"We've made a few little tweaks to help us fix what we failed to do last week. It's all or nothing this week so hopefully the girls can take that on board.
"They aren't major tweaks but just little things to give players a go in a different position. They're things that we might have done at some stage but we've had our hand forced a little bit."
The match gets underway from 2.15pm.
