Denison College Kelso Campus is one of many schools opting to use the testing for Year 9 students through online reading and numeracy assessments last week.
Principal Michael Sloan said the optional assessment would provide schools with data to track the progress of their students.
He said it was important to capture the data, which wold then be used in future programs and planning.

"It enables us to differentiate our teaching to meet individual needs," Mr Sloan said.
Mr Sloan said due to the COVID-19 lockdown earlier this year, NSW NAPLAN testing was cancelled for 2020.
"In order for us to collect data for our Year 9 students, Kelso High Campus has opted to complete the Check-In Assessment," he said.
The Check-In Assessment is an optional testing tool for students in Years 3, 5 and 9.
It can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help Teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to Student needs.
The assessments are mapped to the NSW syllabus and national literacy and numeracy programs.
The Check-In Assessments at Kelso High were held last Tuesday and Friday during the Year 9 students' English periods.
Mr Sloan said the data collected from this testing would only be used by the school to increase insight into student achievement and gains since testing in Year 7.
"It will not be shared with external agencies."
