On Saturday CSU's planned round six match in Dubbo against the Dubbo Rhinos was cancelled due to snow, which leaves the students in fourth spot.
Given CSU will sit out next Saturday with the bye, it means the students do not yet know if they will mathematically still be a chance to qualify for top two and progress to the grand final.
"It's obviously going to make things very difficult for us," CSU vice president Daniel Adamson said.
"We had a lot of injuries at the start of the year and to be honest, I put that down as one of the reasons we were losing by a lot - there were two games where we didn't have a front row.
"Finally this week we were expecting almost everyone back, so we were pretty keen to get up there and try and get the win."

While there is now uncertainty for the students, Adamson said that after next week's bye CSU's playing stocks will be strong and they will give everything in their remaining round matches against Parkes and Narromine to crack the top two.
"There are still three or four blokes to come back after the bye," he said.
"So hopefully after the bye we will be back to full strength, it will be tough to make finals, but we'll be putting ourselves in the best position to make it happen.
"If there's an opportunity to do it, I do back ourselves to have a crack, that's definitely what we'll be doing."
