The duo, consisting of Ben Rudgley and George Sargent, will release 'Caught [In the Headlights] on Monday, August 31.
Sargent said the song examines the feeling of running away from a relationship or a toxic place.
"There's a lot of metaphoric verses in the tune, which stems from Ben's love of language and poetry," he said.
"We both enjoyed writing the song, and the words hit pretty close to home when you really try to dissect them."
"For example, the 'headlights' are a metaphor for that invisible beast chasing you down and confining you to a state of toxic repetition."
"It kind of relates to the state of the world at the moment, but it also adopts a more personal tone through the exploration of relationship/friendship difficulties."
Sargent said the song differs from "Left My Side" in the sense it involves greater experimentation with instrument.
"We've added drums and synth tracks to add further layers to our sound," he said.
"'Left My Side was more of a slow, simple ballad, whereas 'Caught [In the Headlights]' adds rock/pop influences into the mix."
Sargent said the duo has received a positive response to 'Left My Side', with plenty of listeners drawing their own meaning from the song.
"We've had a lot of people get in touch with us commenting on how the song has helped them heal, whether it be from a relationship breakdown or the death of a loved one," he said.
"A couple of other artists have even asked us if they can cover the song for their own projects, which has blown us away considering the single was released with little promotion."
West of Town has an upcoming gig at Panorama Bathurst this Friday and will support Sydney band The Soul Movers [featuring former Wiggle Murray Cook] at their Gunnedah and Tamworth shows next month.
'Caught [In the Headlights]' will be released on all streaming platforms [iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify]. For more information, visit the West of Town Facebook or Instagram page.
