As a father and grandfather, I extend heartfelt sympathy to Paul Toole and wish his son a speedy recovery from his road accident in Bathurst.
On behalf of the Medlow Bath Highway Action Group in the Blue Mountains, I can assure him road safety is forefront in our minds too, especially in this Rural Road Safety Month.
Accordingly, we invite Minister Toole to urge Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to address a highway safety issue involving local traffic in Medlow Bath.
IN OTHER NEWS AROUND BATHURST:
Action on this issue was promised us in 2016, but abandoned when funding ran out.
The current Great Western Highway Upgrade plans, even if approved, will not see any action until at least 2022.
Meanwhile, residents are increasingly worried about lack of safe turning lanes from the highway into their local streets.
TfNSW's director west, Alistair Lunn, is at this stage merely "investigating the feasibility of short term safety improvement measures" for these trouble spots.
Can Minister Toole direct Mr Lunn's project team to implement those measures immediately, before a local family receives one of those calls that, as Paul himself puts it, "then haunts them forever"?
