The NSW Government confirmed this week that the rental support package to help tenants and landlords financially affected by COVID-19 would be extended until March next year.
VERTO CEO Ron Maxwell welcomed the news, saying his the COVID-19 pandemic had seen many renters lose their income and suffer financial hardship.
"This has created many challenges, especially for those who are more vulnerable in our communities. When renters face such a financial burden, homelessness can become a major issue," Mr Maxwell said.
"It is positive to see the NSW Government has listened to calls from the community to extend the eviction moratorium. We hope this provides peace of mind for many renters and some level of comfort for these vulnerable members of our community."
Since COVID-19, VERTO has experienced a significant increase in the number of requests for rental support through its Tenancy Advice and Advocacy Service (TAAS).
"VERTO will continue to support our clients through our TAAS program. It is our hope that this extension will provide some relief for those struggling to meet all their household expenses during this challenging time," Mr Maxwell said.
Anyone experiencing any tenancy issues in the Bathurst area is encouraged to reach out for support. Visit www.verto.org.au for information.
