The Bathurst Garden Club made the difficult decision back in June to cancel the Spring Spectacular weekend of open gardens and charity fundraising, citing the uncertainty of the COVID restrictions.
As well, the long-running drought and the associated water restrictions in Bathurst had made it difficult to find suitable gardens for the Spectacular weekend, Bathurst Garden Club's Dianne Thurling said.
This month, instead, the club will hold a Plant and Garden Expo in Berry Park, featuring music, food, plant and market stalls, demonstrations and displays.
The idea came from last year's Spring Spectacular, when markets were set up in some of the gardens, selling rustic ornaments and craft, according to Ms Thurling.
If the expo proves popular, Bathurst Garden Club says the event might become a permanent fixture.
The expo will be held on Saturday, October 24 from 9.30am to 5pm and entry will be by a gold coin donation.
Proceeds will go to local charities.
The club says the Spring Spectacular - which has raised more than $200,000 for local charities and organisations over its 20 years - will return next year.
