It was appearing to be a near certain Super3 home podium for Bathurst's Anderson Motorsport and driver Declan Fraser, but it all fell apart on the penultimate lap of the opening race.

After starting on Super3 pole position, Fraser lost out to Jaylyn Robotham at the start of the 16 lap race but was looking at a solid second place finish in what is the first ever visit to Mount Panorama for the Super3 category.
Competing largely on his own for the majority of the race, Fraser suffered a mechanical failure at McPhillamy Park with his Ford Falcon finishing the race stuck in the sand.
It could have been worse however if the mechanical failure happened a turn before at The Grate.
Fraser has been fast all weekend and will be back on track for Saturday's second race.
Robotham, Jon McCorkindale and Brendan Strong rounded out the Super3 podium, with the former faring strongly after a crash in practice on Thursday.
Super3 is also competing alongside all of the Super2 contenders this weekend in a combined grid as one of the Bathurst 1000 support categories.
Will Brown, who is competing with David Reynolds in the Bathurst 1000 this weekend, won the Super2 race within the combined race after a good Commodore scrap with Thomas Randle.
Randle made an excellent start from pole position but suffered intermittent engine issues throughout the race, eventually having to concede his lead to Brown on lap 11.
This is the second engine issue in as many days for the #16 Nissan Altima with the Matt White Motorsport team changing its engine on Thursday night.
It was a wild battle for third between Jordan Boys and Broc Feeney with the former finishing less than a second in front of the Tickford driver.
The Cutting once again claimed Jayden Ojeda, firstly in practice four in his Garry Rogers Motorsport Commodore and then in his Matt White Motorsport Nissan on the final lap.
Heading into the final race of the weekend on Saturday, Thomas Randle holds a narrow lead of 26 points in the championship over Will Brown for Image Racing.
The Super2/Super3 race commences at 4.00pm on Saturday as a precursor to the Bathurst 1000 Top 10 Shootout.
