Nathan Hurst achieved his 600th training win at Parkes on Sunday when his mare Tulhurst Lover took out the TAB Odds and Evens Pace (1,660 metres) at Parkes.
The Rock N Roll Heaven mare achieved just her fourth career win at start number 76 for the Hurst and Angela Hedges stable.
While success has been tough to come by with Tulhurst Lover the couple take great pleasure out of her wonderful nature and her never-say-die attitude.
Hurst said the milestone came as a surprise to him.
"I didn't know it was coming up so I was pretty happy to hear about that. I've been going for a few years now and it feels great to reach that milestone," he said.
"My wife Angela does all the work with this mare and she's one of her favourites to work with, so it was really exciting for her too."
Tulhurst Lover ($3.70) took advantage of her inside draw and took an early lead.
When Hurst asked his mare to turn up the pace in the last quarter no-one was able to go with her.
She left Rock Hand ($4.40, Will Cassell) six metres behind in second place with Cuzin Pat ($6, Stephen Dowton) in third.
The six-year-old came into the race with zero placings from her previous seven starts but produced the goods with an ideal draw.
"She's a quiet little mare and that's probably why she's still racing - she's so easy to do anything with. And she does a bit of work with the young horses as well," Hurst said.
"When she gets the right sort of draw and gets herself in the right race she can win one like the way she did on Sunday.
"I thought if she could hold then she would be a pretty good chance because a lot of the horses in that race were in a similar position to her, all struggling to win one.
"We'll keep putting her around to try and get the right race and the right draw. That's what you've got to do with these horses."
Hurst came within a short half head of making it a winning double at Parkes when Eagle Commander ($5.50) came up just short in the NSWSOA And A P Gold Pace (1,660m) behind Amanda Turnbull's Miss Lemon ($8, Isobel Ross).
Meanwhile, Steve Turnbull claimed a treble through Ideal Match, Toro Delago and Rock On.
Ideal Match picked up her first career win at start number four when she won the opening event, the Join The NSWSOA Maiden Pace (2,040 metres) with ease.
The filly worked her way to the front in the middle stages of the race and easily had the stamina in reserve to pull clear of the field in the home stretch.
It was a great way to hit back for the filly after she'd tired badly in her previous run at Bathurst, this time looking like a picture of pace as she broke through.
Toro Delago claimed his second win this preparation by taking out the Parkes Leagues Club Pace (2,040m) before Rock On had win number eight in the Terry Brothers Pace (2,040m).
