Gordon will help Ben Gunn to coach the Wiradjuri Googars in the new Tribal League competition, a three-week event run by the National Indigenous Rugby League Administration.
It is a new challenge for Gordon but one he is looking forward to after the Group 10 premier league competition he had intended to play in with the Bathurst Panthers was cancelled this season due to COVID-19, as was the annual NSW Koori Knockout.
"I'm bit too old at the moment to be starting a season in November, so I'm just coaching. Coaching is something that's a bit different for me, I'll mainly just help with attack, we've two other really good coaches in Kurt Hancock and Gunny," he said.
"We didn't get to do the Koori Knockout this year because of COVID, COVID stopped a few things this year, but this is a good concept and it looks like there's going to be some good footy played."
The Googars are one of six men's teams who will be competing for the inaugural Tribal League crown and competition will be stiff.
That's where Gordon's experience will be valuable when it comes to formulating attacking plays. He's a former Group 10 Player of the Year, he's won premierships and he's filled a number of different back line roles.
He is hoping to pass on that knowledge and help the Googars harness their passion to represent the Wiradjuri community.
"You are playing for your tribe, for your mob, so there's going to be a lot of passion in all these games, you want to be the best," he said.
"There's a good mixture, there's a few Group 10 and Group 11 guys, a few Newcastle lads and maybe a few boys from Queensland and ACT. Gunny has put together a good squad.
"There's a lot of good players and the guys in our team are raring to go.
"We want to win this, it will be the same with all the teams in the competition because everyone likes to win, but yeah, we're coming to win."
