Ian Bonham's Mulberry Meg ($6) shifted into box three for the opening event of the Bathurst meeting and couldn't have started much better as she shot out to an early lead and never let it go.
The My Bro Fabio bitch had not placed in her first four starts before coming across to join Bonham's kennel.
She showed signs of improvement when she ran a distant second place behind Platinum Admit at Richmond on Friday, and she looked even stronger upon her return to Bathurst.
Only one other runner was able to keep pace with Mulberry Meg throughout most of Monday's race.
Inside starter Up There Charlie ($11, Tim Mccaffrey) also got away strongly and started poke along the rail in the opening sectional.
But when the gap down the inside was closed off by Mulberry Meg it put Up There Charlie off stride and he drifted all the way back to last place.
From there it was smooth sailing for Mulberry Meg as she cruised home in 18.07 seconds and with a five length margin over the rest of the field.
Lumeah Finn ($2.50, Garry Abernethy) and Bonham's Ray Of Hope ($14) filled the minor placings.
It's good when someone will give you one that's a bit handy.
- Ian Bonham
In the short time she's been with Bonham she's made a big impression.
"I've only had her for three and a half weeks," he said.
"She went second at Richmond for me on Friday and now she's won here. Good man Laurie Duncan gave her to me. I won four races with a half sister to her.
"I've been given a lot of dogs that have been too sore and too hard to get going and it's good when someone will give you one that's a bit handy."
