THE lure of the Mount Panorama circuit and the pride that comes in racing car number 17 - it is those two factors which should see Scott McLaughlin contest next year's Bathurst 1000.

Even before the talented Kiwi confirmed he was making the switch from Supercars to the IndyCar series next year, he said the Bathurst 1000 was 'a forever race' that he would always want to contest.
Since the switch has been confirmed, McLaughlin's desire to tackle the Great Race has not changed. The 2018 Bathurst 1000 victor plans on another tilt for Dick Johnston Racing next year.
"I would still continue to love to be a co-driver because with Indy, at the moment the calendars work out perfectly ... if it stays at one enduro in the future at Bathurst, then we're a shoo-in," he told The Loud Pedal podcast.
"I'd love to just drive in the 17, whoever is going to be driving that car, I don't know, but I'd love to go back to my old car and my old crew," he said.
"It's a pretty special number in my place in Australia along with DJ [Dick Johnson] and I really take a lot of pride in driving that."
DJR recently revealed that Will Davison and Anton de Pasquale will steer its two Mustangs in the 2021 Supercars series.
Though it remains to be seen who McLaughlin co-drives for, DJR managing director Ryan Story left no doubt what his aim for the three-time Supercars champion will be when he returns.
"I want Scott to come back and win the thing," he said.
