ONE Tuesday morning last month I turned on my radio expecting to hear a popular song by, possibly, Nina Simone or Blossom Dearie but found myself having a good laugh as I listened to a comedy sketch. Expect the unexpected! I'll explain later.

During COVID-19 restrictions many of 2MCE's Morning Music programs couldn't be presented, and instead program from the Community Radio Network were broadcast. In October, 2MCE welcomed back Margaret Hargans to her long-standing Tuesday Morning Music for two hours from 9am.
Margaret's love of music guides her selections from a variety of music genres. Her preference for spontaneity means that she doesn't always plan her entire program, relying instead on her current mood. Phone calls from her regular listeners have meant that she knows some of their likes and dislikes and she responds accordingly.
At about 10.30am, Margaret plays a regular comedy segment. That's what I heard when I tuned in. It was the classic Monty Python Bookshop sketch by John Cleese and Marty Feldman. It's from one of her comedy LPs. Like many presenters, Margaret has an extensive collections of LPs and CDs which give her a great choice in programming. She still has some of the old shellac 78 rpm discs from her childhood but the 2MCE studios cannot play them.
Margaret Hargans has been a 2MCE volunteer for more than 40 years. And like many members of the 2MCE family of volunteers, Margaret has been involved in many other community activities. Her contributions have been recognised by Lions, Careflight and the Bathurst Regional Council and she has been honoured with an Honorary Life Membership of the Bathurst Show Society. Last year she was nominated for the NSW Volunteer Award.
And now, a correction
As noted in last week's Tuned In column, the 2MCE Business Raffle is now underway. However, a correction needs to be made in the announcement of the prize structure.
This year's raffle is a little different... tickets are $100 each and there are only 100 tickets available. First prize is three sponsorship spots a day for 6 months, second prize is three spots for 3 months, and third prize is three spots a day for one month.
All businesses purchasing tickets will be acknowledged on air for their support of 2MCE. Every ticket sold goes toward the running of the station, including equipment to help us hear your voices.
You have to be in it to win it!
